Cornelius and Associates has redeveloped the Essential Leadership Skills program for 2010. Click here to learn more about this great program and see how you can turn good managers into great leaders!
Today’s organizations need more than good management to navigate and thrive through challenging times; they must have great leadership. In order to reach the highest levels of success, organizations need to develop leaders who have the skills and the abilities to:
- Innovate……not just administer

- Focus on people……not just systems and structure
- Inspire trust…rather than relying on control
- Have a longer term perspective……rather than a short range view
- Ask “what?” and “why?”…..rather than how and when
- Have their eye on the horizon… as opposed to just thebottom line
- Challenge the status quo……not accepting the status quo
- Be their own person……rather than the classic “good soldier”
- Do the right things…..not solely focused on doing things right
While these skills come naturally to some leaders, for others developing the skills that separate leaders from managers can be more of a challenge. The good news, however, is that leadership is a capability that can be developed.
What We Teach
The Essential Leadership Skills program is designed to provide participants with the critical skills, insights and action planning needed to effectively lead, guide and influence organizations. The lessons are based on our more than 20 years of experience working with leaders to increase their effectiveness in their professional and personal lives.
Our program teaches leaders:
- The difference between managing and leading
- Characteristics of effective leaders
- How to be a source of vision, values and integrity
- How to influence, motivate and have powerful conversations
- How to effectively lead change in the organization
- How to keep people motivated, yet expect more from them
- How to develop talent in the organization and coach for high performance
So What's Different about Essential Leadership Skills?
- This is a leadership development process, not a management course. In our experience, many so-called leadership programs are really teaching management.
- This is not an “off-the-shelf” training course. We find out what your specific needs are, then customize the program to fit your needs, including your examples and cases
- This is not a theory course- we focus on a few essential skills and behaviors, and provide specific tools and skill practice for each of those modules
- Our instructors make the difference- the program is facilitated by outstanding presenters who also bring extensive real world experience and examples to the program
- The program is specifically designed around application assignments in the organization, so you see visible, short term results while developing leaders for the future
