Our Coaching Assumptions, Ethics and Beliefs

The following information summarizes our coaching philosophy.

Assumptions

bullet We assume that the responsibility for success of the coaching engagement does not rest solely on the coaching candidate.
bullet We further assume that the coaching candidate, their mentor/sponsor, and the Cornelius & Associates' coach will share the responsibility for success of the coaching effort.  This group will work together to ensure the coaching candidate achieves the goals they establish.
bullet We assume the coaching candidate and their mentor/sponsor will treat seriously the coaching engagement and the assignments made by the coach, and will commit the time necessary to both attend the sessions and carry out the action steps that result from these sessions.

Ethics

bullet Any information that the coaching candidate wishes to remain confidential will be kept so by the Cornelius & Associates' coach.
bullet The coach will treat as confidential any information they receive when carrying out the diagnosis phase.
bullet The Cornelius & Associates' coach has the role of both serving the coaching candidate and their organization.  Personal issues and private attitudes expressed by the coaching candidate are kept confidential by the coach; however, the coach also has an obligation to the organization to make objective assessments of progress and to give estimates of the likelihood for improvement.

Beliefs

bullet We believe the coaching process is most successful when outcomes are expressed in observable terms and agreed upon ahead of time (i.e. we do believe that coaching can be measurement-oriented).
bullet We believe that the coaching process is most successful when the coaching candidate choose a coaching option voluntarily; that is, that the coaching candidate wants the use of a third party to help improve their leadership skills.
bullet We believe, in most cases, substantial progress should be made and noticeable to others within 90 days.
bullet Unlike many coaching service deliverers, we believe that coaching engagements do not have to be extensively long and drawn out to be successful.
